Solar PV Installers in Nottingham and Derby

With increasing energy costs year on year there has never been a better time to have a Photo  Voltaic Solar installation carried out at your property. Solar panel and battery storage technology has improved drastically in efficiency over the years and can now provide more power than ever to homes.

There are a number of benefits to having a solar and battery system installed such as:
•    Charging your electric car
•    Green Clean Energy
•    Day storage of energy for use during the night
•    Reduced or no dependence on mains supply
•    Low Maintenance
•    Potential to benefit from supplying electricity to the grid

How do Solar Panels and Battery Storage work?

Solar panels work by converting the Sun’s energy into electricity. The electric current produced is in the form of DC (Direct Current) which can be stored in DC form in the battery system. Once the power is required from the battery, the electricity is converted into AC (alternating current) by an inverter. This electricity can then be used to power electrical equipment around the home.

Is my home suitable for Solar Panels?

There are a few things that need to be considered when thinking of solar panel and battery installation. We can perform a site survey to double check if the property is suitable for solar installation but as a guide:

•    The roof of the property needs to be sloping in order to best install the panels. Flat roofs are a more difficult and potentially costly installation.
•    The roof needs to be in a good state of repair. Solar panels add weight to a roof and as such, a weakened roof will not take kindly to the addition of the panels and any extra stress through windy conditions.
•    The roof needs to be an adequate size. Most solar panels are fairly large and in order to install enough panels to obtain usable electricity, the roof needs to be a decent size.
•    North facing roofs are not the best for solar panel installation. In order to catch the most light from the sun, a south facing roof is ideal, east and west facing roofs can also work to catch the light though.
•    There needs to be no blockages to the suns light during peak hours. Check that your roof is not shaded during peak daylight hours. Look for neighbouring trees, buildings and other obstacles that may case shade onto your roof and prevent optimum electricity generation.

Can solar power heat my home?

When combining solar panel and battery installation with an air source heat pump, it is possible to heat your home from the solar set up. Air source heat pumps absorb the heat from outside, even in cold temperatures. The air is passed to a heat exchanger that contains refrigerant, the refrigerant absorbs the heat from outside and turns into a low pressure and low temperature gas.

The gas is then compressed which raises the pressure and temperature of the gas. This gas is passed to a heat exchanger which transfers the heat from the gas to the water that is pumped around your home and its radiators.
