Having decided you need an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) carried out on your home in Derby and have chosen Definitive Electrical Solutions to carry it out, you are now wanting to read up a little as to the types of findings we may report on and want to understand the EICR Codes that we will use.
What is an EICR Report?
An EICR is an inspection on all fixed electrical installations in your Derby home conforming to national standards. The outcome of the same will either present satisfactory or unsatisfactory subject to the observation findings Definitive Electrical Solutions identify. There are four EICR Codes being C1, C2, C3 and F1 that range in severity.
EICR Codes – C1
C1 is the most severe of the EICR Codes. This reports danger being present and that there is an immediate threat to life, or property. This requires Definitive Electrical Solutions to carry out immediate mandatory action at your Derby home. Examples of when a C1 may be issued will be upon discovering exposed live electrical parts, deteriorated insulation or even broken plug sockets that could result in electric shock.
In order for this to be rectified the issue will need to be repaired or isolated and taken out of use. C1 will raise a “Electrical Danger Notice”, and the rectification process must at least reduce this code to a C2 whilst we are present at your home.
EICR Codes – C2
C2 is the second most severe of the EICR Codes. This reports any potential for dangerous defects and those urgent remedial measures that need be taken. These are not to be necessarily rectified immediately but must be made safe. Examples of when a C2 may be issued by Definitive Electrical Solutions are the discovery of mains protected bonding or earthing being absent or an RCD failing to trip when tested.
EICR Codes – C3
C3 is the lowest of the EICR Codes. This reports improvement recommendations meaning that a non-compliance with the most up to date regulations has been identified in your Derby home or that part of an installation needs improvement, but it is not classed as dangerous enough to be coded as a C1 or C2. Think of this like an advisory reported on your car’s MOT certificate. An example of this would be the location of a plug socket if at risk to the plug itself or its flex.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report can be classed as satisfactory should only C3 codes be reported.
EICR Codes – F1
F1 means that Definitive Electrical Solutions have identified an issue at your Derby home, but that further investigation is required. We will need to look at the finding in more depth to determine its severity and whether it is deemed safe or not. An example of an F1 being issued is an untraceable defect in a circuit that cannot be verified as to its use so therefore cannot be deemed satisfactory until it has been traced and tested or disconnected if found to no longer be in use.
Short term an unsatisfactory report will be generated until such a decision is made.
